Midgie Standridge has always been fascinated by the human psyche and began volunteering at a young age. Anyone who knows Midgie will tell you that she has a big heart; it was clear that she was destined to help others.
In 2002, Midgie Standridge took a bit of a left turn in her career. Having had over 25 years of experience in her first career, real estate, Midgie was extremely versed and reputable, to say the least. She was very active in her branch as a manager, where she managed almost 20 agents, and in addition, had several clients of her own. While Midgie found great success in her real estate endeavors, she did not feel the sense of fulfillment she so desired. Instead, Midgie turned her efforts to social work and enrolled in the Masters program at California State University.
The mission statement for California State University’s Masters in Social Work program is “to prepare professional social workers to promote the well-being of individuals, families and communities in the urban setting”, which resonated with Midgie in a colossal way. In this program, Midgie learned how to prevent social, emotional and behavioral problems, improve the well being of individuals and families, and support the recovery process; Develop programs and policies which build on the strengths of urban families; Empower and be relevant to the needs of multi-national, multi-ethnic, multi-cultural communities; Advocate for a diverse and just society.
Throughout her educational pursuits, Midgie took a particular interest in teaching about substance abuse and is now a counselor to reformed addicts and their children. She is very dedicated to her work and continues to provide strength and wisdom to families across the Sacramento area.
